Everything has beauty...

One of the guests over on the PA blog this week was Helen Mazengarb. she did a lovely journal spread which was my inspiration this week..You can pop over and see it here. I loved the colour she used so went along with the claret fresco for my own page...

I used grunge paste, tissue and dreamweaver crackle paste for some texture..just as Helen had done. I then put a coat of gesso over everything.
Once this was dry I used a baby wipe to rub away some of the claret fresco to reveal some of the white gesso.I stuck an image from the internet (can't remember where) and put some grunge paste around the edeges to blend it into the page.
Painted in with the claret and rubbed some of that back when it dried.

I then stamped along the bottom using black archival and smudged around the edges. I printed the quote on my pc and stuck it to a piece of card and cut it out..edged it with victorian velvet distress ink and stuck it onto the page...

Finn Style

Over on the Arty Inklings blog Anita has set a challenge to do anything inspired by Finnebair. I absolutely love her work and would love to do one of her classes but she hasn't done one near enough to me yet...
As I had the day off work yesterday I thought I would join in with the challenge so had a play.. I used a piece of corrugated cardboard from an old box as my base and did tear just a few small bits from it before I started. I printed off a piccie I had downloaded ages ago and just started sticking whatever came to hand onto my piece. I love this Finn style because anything goes and a lot of the embellishments I used I had made from paper clay or hot glue using different molds. Once everything was stuck down I painted it all with gesso.

Then using a mixture of IZINK (a purchase fron Version Scrap) in topaz and advocado and precious metals in turquoise, lime and cinnamon. I painted  and sprayed until I was happy with how it looked. The last step is to lightly go over the raised areas with some white gesso to highlight..

My Heart...

Another new guest this week was Emma Godfrey from Imagine That...she did a lovely piece all bright and cheery...so had to have a go too especially as she is a girl after my own heart and uses her fingers to get the paint on...I'm sure like me she also uses brushes etc..I followed along all the way with Emma's except for the focal image and had great time!!You can pop over and see Emmas here. I saw some of Emma's demoing at Ally Pally, but not enough as was too busy talking to some of the pther patwits!!(slap on the wrist) I did mine on a piece of corrugated cardboard but resisited the urge to tear some of it... This is what I came up with...

Art...

Sue Carrington also paid us a visit this week with a beautiful hanging board which she turned into a little free standing piece..I loved it so thought I would have a go at my own interpretation...As always it didn't turn out as I planned as I did the usual flaffing about with all most of yesterday afternoon. You can pop over and see Sue's here and read how she did it.. I more or less did the same..ish and came up with this...

I used Chatsworth papers and lots of fresco paint to build up the background..then just played around with stencils..more paint  and stamps. I cut the word Art from my TH wordplay die and the leaves from a memory box die. I am pleased with how this came out in the end...thank you Sue for the inspiration..

My card was inspired by Kerins..just a simple black and white card with washi tape...a Lynn Perella image, an on the edge die and a few gems..quick, easy and I must admit I love it..lol may even send it to somebody for their birthday...well here it is..

Altered Tin..

This post may be a bit all over the place...I have a stinking headache and need to step away from the PC!! I wanted to blog my tin as I am entering it into the PA challenge.

We had a new guest designer this week..Liesbeth Fidder. She treated us to a fabulous project over three days..a gorgeous altered tin..you can see it here. I loved it!!
The second designer up this week was Sara Naumann..she did a lovely book cover with a really neat idea with tissue paper.

So last sunday evening a few of us patwits set about burning our tins...was quite a laugh I can tell you!! I managed to burn two tins in a fire I got going in a metal bucket..so sent one to my mate Helen.

I was working all week so didn't really have much time (what's new). I didn't want to cover up the inside of the tin so left most of it blank..

So I had the tin..but what to do with it??? I had started making a little book to put inside before I went off to work yesterday...I wanted to try Sara's technique with the tissue.

I followed along with what Sara did but used a piece of card from a Tim Holtz stack. I gave it a coat of gloss glaze before adding the tissue to bring the colours out a bit more.
I cut four pages for the inside and painted them with different colour distress paint and freco paint. I then stamped them with different Lynne Perella stamps and added some chit chat stickers, gems and more ink.

These were all put together using  large jump rings....

Here are some of the pages.......

For the top of the tin...I flaffed about for ages and came up with this...

I coloured a piece of lace with watered down french roast fresco and stuck it along the side of the tin..on top of that some crunchy wax paper scrunched up with treasure gold. Then I took a square of white card and pulled it through the french roast, dried it and repeated until I liked the effect. This was then embossed and sanded back, then inked with coffee archival.. I then cut some wings from a Tim Holtz die and covered them with a stiff curtain backing to give a bit of texture. The heart is made from wax in an ice cube tray...these were painted, sprayed and given the treasure gold treatment. All put together using my hot glue gun.

Also this week our friend Lucy did a beautiful project with some great tips on putting grunge paste in and on awkward places. Excellent tips Lucy and if it hadn't been for this headache I would have played along with that too..you can see Lucy's project here..you should pop on over and check it out!!

Inspired by Hazel

On the final day of the Paper Artsy finale this semester another friend from twitter appeared!! Hazel. She is one of our newer #patwits and has settled into our little family of like minded friends very nicely. Her project was gorgoeus!! She transformed her phone table accesories using one of the new hotpicks!! I just loved the little ink bottle and knew straight way some bottles I had in my shed that would do quite nicely..I had bought these bottles many moons ago at an Artsycrafts event...but like loads of other stuff hadn't got around to using them! So here goes

It started off looking like this.....just a plain glass jar

I painted it a mix of little black dress and french roast. I used a couple of stencils with my grunge paste and when that was dry gave it another coat of paint. I had some little embellishments I had made from hot glue using a couple of my molds, these were stuck to the cork top and painted. When that was all dry..as Hazel did out came the treasure gold..I used onyxite, indigo, sapphire and green amber...just adding them until I was happy..and voila!!

The stencil is slightly off centre and I know that's going to drive me nuts!! so may have to start again!
Here's a close up of the top....

Thank you for the inspiration Hazel...fantastic idea!!

Bit of a mixture

My good friend Helen from twitter was also on the PA blog on day one and did a lovey hanging board...so I thought hmmm...may do one of those...then on day two another lovely friend from twitter appeared!! Kirsten with her lovely piece....again I thought hmmm..also on day two was Ruth with a lovely bright sunny canvas...hmmm what to do??? So I did this.......

I love the size of the hanging boards..great to work with..and I loved the way Kisten had mounted 3 different sizes pieces on hers..and I loved Ruth's background, with the stencilling and bumping.(a tecnique picked up from Lin and Leandra). So I started with my background and kinda went off on my own from there. I love my Lynn Perella stamps so out came one of my new sets LP027. I used limelight, zesty zing, beach hut, south pacific, hey pesto, inky pool and smoked paprika frescos.

The birdcage lady was stamped and cut out and mounted onto the smaller piece. I cut a flower from one of my paper artsy dies and scrunched it up and sprayed it with perfect pearls mist which settled in all the creases. A little acetate butterfly on the top and finished...

Black and White

Well it's the end of the first semester over at Paper Artsy this week and the turn of the Patwits to do their thing!! And what stunning projects they came up with. 3 every night and six on the last night all featuring different stamp designs. Every project so different from the last!! I am not going to put links to any particular night you should go over and see them all here.

My first project this week is inspired byShirley who was up on day1. She did a beautiful card in black and white..stunning!! I decide to do a journal page..to be honest I am not 100% sure I like this but I'll live with it for a while and maybe change it somewhere along the line...

Both pages were gesso'd and then a coat of snowflake fresco...I just added random bits and pieces that were cluttering up my desk and gave it another couple of coats of snowflake.

I painted some of the bits black and stamped out the quote 'Be brave with your life' I can't recall where I read this but liked it and scribbled it down on a piece of paper..(like you do). Used my scrapper to add a few lines and done...but is it...
